When Tommy Bowe decided tackle the world of fashion (pardon the pun), we were completely blindsided (we’ll see ourselves out). Lions hero, turned pundit, turned… shoe designer? Not exactly a linear progression. But the Monaghan-born marvel clearly has a Midas touch, because like his sporting endeavours, his shoe line has been a total triumph.
His footwear collection officially launched back in 2011, in collaboration with Lloyd & Pryce. Today, it is sold in stores across the nation. Tommy Bowe shoes are a reflection of his own laidback, down-to-earth style. They are developed with every man in mind, from their affordable price to their versatile and easy-to-wear designs. According to Bowe, they’ll also “last you a while”, thanks to their high-quality craftsmanship and materials. Since the brand’s kick-off (couldn’t resist), it has evolved and diversified, now catering to ladies as well as kids.
Here are some of our favourite pairs from this season’s men’s collection.
Throw it back to the 70’s with these retro lace-up trainers in the Templeton style. This classic navy shade goes well with most colours, so you don’t have to worry about them matching your outfit. Two white stripes run down the side, adding a sporty freshness that livens up the shoe. These are the perfect weekend trainers, built for long and leisurely strolls. The curved sole and cushioned tongue offer sublime comfort to keep busy feet relaxed and supported all day. Team with shorts or blue denim jeans for a casual yet neat look.
These camel lace-ups in the Burger style are all-round winners for us. The ultimate convenience shoes, these badboys are comfy enough to walk to work in, smart enough to wear at work and casual enough for post-work pints. They will, quite literally, take you anywhere. And all of this wear for just €39.95. The panelling detail against the faux leather gives these shoes their signature preppy aesthetic, but with a vintage twist. You can dress them up or down effortlessly, but we love them with a pair of chinos.
Tommy has hung up his dirty boots in favour of something a little more sophisticated with these navy trainers in the Elsom style. These kicks come in at a slightly higher price point, but their quality is unmistakable. They are handmade using the finest leather that is tough yet supple and built to last. Cool and contemporary, these flatform trainers are bang on trend. We love their white soles and perforated vamp, delivering a subtle nod to modern street style. Here, Tommy is having a sports-luxe moment, styling them slim-fit denims and a snug shirt.
